Not access to the management console

$

Hello,

I have an MSA 2040 that I can not access to the management console.

Does it just reboot the storage to return with access?

Is there any option without the need to restart storage?

As I can not restart using the management, to reboot I have to take out the power cables, right?

Thank you.

MSA 2052 volumes sizes

What are the size reocmmendations for volumes in a hyper-v environment. Should we create one large volume and present to the hyper-v hosts then format smaller disks on the host, maybe have a volume on the MSA for vhd/x's? Or multiple smaller volumes around system needs? IE larger volume for file servers smaller for a dns server with no storage requirements?

We have an MSA 2052 with 2 x SSDs and 6 HDD with FC connection into 2 x D360.

Thanks in advance

How to add a disk into a disk group in MSA2050

Hi all:

If I want to add a single disk to a disk group in a pool to expand the disk group,

How to do can fulfil this ask?

Implement SAN redundancy MSA2040

$

Hi all,

We have two MSA 2040 SAN with the information mentioned below:

Vendor : HP MSA 2040 SAN

Mode : SPS-CHASSIS

Number of Disks : 6 (4 disks in RAID 10 and 2 disks are spared)

Midplane Serial Number :

Part Number :    639410-001

MIdplane Type : 2U24-6Gv2

Enclosure Power : 125.28

This dual controller SAN is connected to 2 Oracle DBs server via FC ports to controller A and B which are in Active-Active ULP Mode for each server. We are supposed to load up second SAN which is entirely same as the first one to implement SAN redundancy.

Based on our investigation the best design is using two SAN switches to connect two ports from each controller module to the first switch to facilitate I/O traffic, and connect two ports from each controller module to the second switch to facilitate replication to get full redundancy and avoid the potential single point of failure inherent to using a single switch. But I want to know what if we eliminate the switch and just connect two SANs together? Please consider that our second SAN storage does not have any configuration, we want to make sure adding it to cluster will not affect our production environment.

MSA2040 - Expanded size by 2 TB but Allocated size stays still.

Hello, I have 2040 (currently 13  x 1.2TB 10K SAS disks) -Raid 6-

Pool details: Total size: 13.1 TB, Class: Virtual, Avail: 3930.6 GB, Volumes:1 Disk Groups: 1

Volumes: Class:Virtual, Size:13.1 TB, Allocated: 9.3 TB

This volume was 10 TB before, I deleted other 2 volumes and added the space of these volumes to main one. The thing is, size is expanded to 13.1 TB, but its allocated size is not changed.

Is it because I have 13 disks installed with Raid 6 configuration? I bought anothe 11 disks (1.2 TB 10k SAS), but I want to make sure if its because of odd number of disk.

What could I do to use all available space?

Also df -h results (the server where I use this volume);

/dev/sdb 9.4T 8.3T 1.1T 89% /msa10tb

Edit: Attached screenshots of Pool, Volume, Capacity and Storage.

MSA2050 sparing question

Hello,

My msa2050 has 2 virtual pools , with one disk group each :

1 diskgroup on pool A with 9 x 800Gb SSD's (raid 6)

1 disgroup on pool B with 11 x 12Tb SAS drives. (raid 6)

I have a 12Tb not assigned disk ( just available) that want to use as a spare for pool B diskgroup.

With dynamic sparing ( default i think) , will this disk been used for reconstruction on both diskgroup ?

What is the difference to declare this disk as a global spare ?

I don't want this disk to reconstruct a failure of a drive in the SSD diskgroup.

in other words how can i dedicate this disk to the "B" diskgroup

thank's in advance

Gérard

MSA 2050 SAN - Basic preperation

Hi Community,

I'm about to prepare 10x MSA 2050 Storage Array and 10x MSA 2050 Storage Enclosures for a customer.

The goal is :
- equip every Array and Enclosure with 24 hard drives
- equip both controllers of every Array with 2 SFP modules
- set the management IPs for both controllers on every Array

Questions:
1. I equip an Enclosure with the HDDs and only connect power to check if every component (PSU, FAN, HDDs) is working. Can I switch off the power just like that and the system is still in basic (almost) manufacturing state?

2.  Same question for the Array. Equipping with HDDs and SFP modules. Powering on to check components are working. Do I have to be aware of anything before powering down?

3.  I would set IPs with the CLI  (described in MSA 2050 User Guide chapter 5).  Is this the simplest way? If I set the IPs  with " set network-parameters" is it already persistent and can I power down the systems savely by flicking the power switch?

The systems should not be connected to anything else than power the whole time.
Nothing else than IP settings should be set so the customer would have almost default factory configuration.

Thanks for input.

MSA 2040 13TB LUN is Recognized 11.82TB in ESXi 6.7

Hello everybody

I think the topic clearly states my problem.

9 * 1.8 TB Disks are RAID-5ed together So a total space of ~14.4 TB is available. I created a 13 TB LUN in this linear disk group (which is shown as 12.9 TB in MSA SMU). So far so good. But all my hosts which are ESXi 6.7 only detect 11.82 TB of this storage. Here are snapshots of MSA and ESXi

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone, I am new to this device and I believe it has ran it's life support. I am trying to figure out how to connect to either controller via a ethernet cable to access the web interface.

Can anyone more experience share their knowledge on this task? I have a laptop on the same network and access to both straight/cross cables and plugged into both controller ports on the MSA 2040 but keeping "Page can not be displayed".

Thanks.

hardware_handler parameter of MSA2040 at RHEL 7.4

There was a path problem with RHEL 7.4 on server superdome x:

Jul 26 02:47:49 ictasstgdb01 kernel: sd 0:0:0:0: alua: Detached
Jul 26 02:47:49 ictasstgdb01 kernel: sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Synchronizing SCSI cache
Jul 26 02:47:49 ictasstgdb01 kernel: sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Synchronize Cache(10) failed: Result: hostbyte=DID_NO_CONNECT driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
Jul 26 02:47:49 ictasstgdb01 multipathd: sda: remove path (uevent)

So Linux engineer recommended customer needs to change from hardware_handler "0" to hardware_handler "1 alua" :

# cat /etc/multipath.conf
defaults {
        find_multipaths yes
        user_friendly_names yes
}
devices {
        device{
                                vendor "HP"
                                product "MSA 2040 SAN"
                                path_grouping_policy group_by_prio
                                path_selector "round-robin 0"
                                path_checker tur
                                hardware_handler "0"   -> hardware_handler "1 alua"
                                failback immediate
                                rr_weight uniform
                                rr_min_io_rq 1
                                no_path_retry 3

I tried to find document related with that but I can't.
Can we change the parameter as linux engineer said ?

hp p200 G3 Error wher recon sapre hard drive

I had a couple of days ago 1 HDs on the virtual disk failing. The virtual disk is on raid 5+0 and had a spare. After replacing the  hard drives, it started to reconstruct the Raid and looks like failed yesterday, by giving me another error and by presenting 1HDs as "Leftover". After searching on google, i cleaned the metadata of these hard drives and presented them again to the virtual disk and the reconstruction started again.
However it looks like during the night the reconstruction failed and for some reason the whole Virtual Disk went Offline!

recon operation in 80% going to failed

please help me how solved this problem

Hi Guys,

I hope someone can help. I have an old HP SAN MSA2312i. 1 disk failed. I replaced the disk (Disk 5 in RAID5) with a new disk. I cleared the META DATA and Added the disk as spare. The rebuild started and after a while 2 disk become on status LEFTOVR. I thought the new disk is a defect one and I buyed a second new disk. This give also this message. In the log I see :

Vdisk reconstruct failed. Command failed. (error code: 1). (vdisk: VDISK_RAID5, SN: )

 Can someone help?

 Thanks a lot

Need help with msa p2000 g3 mpio iscsi

Hi,

We have an oldish HP MSA p2000 g3 iscsi as a backup target.
Yesterday I enabled MPIO to get more troughput since our backups are gettin quite big.

I ran in to problems. First, my archive backups vere corrupted. After that I formatted the volume and send backups there again. During the night server has bsod'ed and in morning the whole volume was not readable and windows is asking to forma it.  I think I might have an fundamental error in my mpio config. The archive volume has windows deduplication enabled.

The setup is following:
I have 24x900gb disks in two raid6 vdisks.

Management interfaces are assigned to 192.168.100.0 network.
A1 and B1 port has been assigned to 192.168.100.0 network
A2 and B2 port has been assigned to 10.100.11.0 network

Backup server is running win2012 r2
Nic1 has been assigned to 192.168.100.0 network
Nic2 has been assigned to 10.100.11.0 network

MPIO is enabled in windows server.

connecting to storage:
From backup server, start iscsi initiator
go to discovery tab, click discover portal
enter A1 port ip address, OK

go to targets tab, Storage now appears in "discovered targets".
Click connect and Properties.
Click add session, select enable multi-path, click advanced. Select "Microsoft iSCSI Initiator" as local adapter, Nic1 IP as initiator IP, B1 ip as target IP.
Add two more sessions like above, Nic2 -> A1, Nic2 -> B2.
At properties, click devices -> MPIO -> select Least Queue Depth as load balance policy.

Close everything and start computer management.
Under disk drives, I now have two HP P2000 G3 iSCSI Multi-Path Disk Devices.
Right click -> properties, uncheck "Enable write caching on the device", go to MPIO tab, select Least Queue Depth for MPIO Policy. Repeat for another disk.

Some observations, that puzzles me.
When I now copy large files over iSCSI, the copy is extremely fast. However, it seems that the file is actually being cached in the memory and after the copy "finishes", it is actually still being transferred for tens of seconds (observer from task manager -> performance).

For some reason in isci initiator -> target -> properties, in the sessions tab, in the identifiers, some of the identifiers has Data Digest automatically set to "CRC32", some has "None Specified".  Also, since this morning I now have five identifiers. Nic1 -> B2 seems to be double.

Some questions:
Is it ok to have multiple storage ports in the same subnet or shoudl each port be in its own subnet? Is it ok to have storage ports in the same subnet than management ports?

In iscsi initiator, in discovery tab, should I add each IP address to target portals or only A1, or A1 and B1?
In isci initiator target -> properties -> Should I add so many paths, or just have Nic1 -> A1 and Nic2 -> B2 or something else?
In the device manager, is it OK to disable caching, for maximum stability?

Thanks in advance, please ask for more detail if needed.

HP MSA 2040 unable to access Controller A via web

I have an MSA 2040 SAN with two controllers and I'm able to access controller A via the web management page. I can ping and access it via telnet and am looking to restart the management controller using the commands. However, I am wondering whether during this period does the SAN go offline or is it just the management controller that I am restarting and access to the disks is unaffected?

HP MSA 1510i iSCSI config

Hi ! I have an MSA 1510i with 2 controller and I want to setup the iSCSI params.

I found an step by step guide and my final configuration is working with 1 pc for the tests.

But I can't found some explanation about the number of portals / portal group needs for an correct setup.

My actual setup :

- 2 arrays with 1 target by array

- On each port (SA0,SA1,SB0,SB1) 2 IP Adress with 2 portals on each IP

- for the targets :

Target 1 : portal group "main" with 4 portals of SA0 and portal group "back"  with 4 portals of SB0

Target 2 : portal group "main" with 4 portals of SA1 and portal group "back"  with 4 portals of SB1

and for finish , 1 initiator allowed to all target (1 pc connected for the moment)

Planned use : HP C7000 with 10 BL460C G1 with ESXi (regardless of hardware setup of switch etc)

If I understand correctly the bases of iSCSI, I need 1 initiator by BL460C. But my setup (ports, portals groups etc) is good for the setup or I need to setup more portals / ip / portal group / anything else ?

Thanks a lot !

Kind regards
