MSA 2052 tiering

Hi all,

IM just trying to understand my new MSA 2052.

So i have just created a raid 1 with two SSD'S within Pool A and Raid 5 Diskgroup - Volume also within Pool A ( HD 2,5 10000rpm)

Us i understand the best practise evyrthing within the same Pool will use automaticly tier performance.

1. Waht i not really understand do i have to selct Tier Affinity: performance on the volumes?

and

2. Is there a chance to see if tiering is running? somwhere on performance tab maybe?

and

3. how to understand the performacen tab, i can't find any info about that.

MSA 2040: replace SAS controllers with FC (on the fly)

Hello, I'm in process of replacing SAS with FC.

Currently I have MSA 2040 with 2 servers connected to it using SAS.

I have FC switches in place, HBAs installed into servers and FC controllers ready to be installed.

Is it possible to shut down one SAS controller, replace it with FC one, bring FC controller up, reconnect volumes to hosts with FC MP and repeat the same for second SAS controller?

The idea is to save on rebuilding/reconfiguring MSA and restoring infrastructure from backups. This would rock :)

MSA 2052 diskgroup and vmware

Hi all,

I'm just trying to understand my new MSA 2052.

So i have just created a raid 1 with two SSD'S within Pool A and Raid 5 Volume  also within Pool A Diskgroup for tiering purposes.

So the DIskgroup on Pool A has the total size of 24,1 TB = 2x Volumes ( Volume one = 20,9 TB and Volume two 3 TB) 

Both Volumes are now mounted and formated on Vmware. And i have already lots of vmdks on that volumes. So theroreticaly on this diskgroup is no more space to create new volumes. But it seems that my MSA2052 can see how match is exactly in use under vmware and give me the possibilty to create new volumes with the free remain space which is not in use ander vmware yet.  That is confusing me. If i gonna create a new volume now within this disgroup it will break all my vmware volumes i guess. Can someone explain me this behavior?

On my previous MSA P2000 system with linear vdisks it was pretty easy if you have a vdisk withs lets say 20 TB and two volunes on that vdisk with 15 TB and 5 TB no matter how much was in use or not you was not able to create any voluem on that vdisk.

 

Hope you can bring some light on that

MSA2040 replace larger disk ...

There're two DL380 G9 using FC link to MSA2040, MSA2040 hard disk 2TB x10, and is going to change to 4TB x12, how to replace the disks (procedule)? one-by-one? will it affect the vm?

Initiators, hosts and clusters

When I map a lun, I can map it to initiator, or ig I have created a host to that host or i guess if i have created a cluster to a cluster.

Is this just a gui thing? If I have mapped 3 luns as initiators to 3 hosts, then 1 lun to same hosts as hosts. If I create a cluster of these 3 hosts and maps a 4th lun to the cluster. Does it matters? Is it just to simplyfie things in gui?

MSA2000 Partner Firmware Update... how do I know?

I am frequently testing MSA2k controllers that came back from customers. Some are defective and some not. Currently I have two working G3 SAS controllers with different firmware levels. Partner Firmware Update (PFU) is enabled.

My question is this: The only way to see the progress of PFU is to use the GUI of the working (firmware donating) controller. Is it true that there is no way to see PFU activity via the CLI port?
All I can see there is that one controller is not working. No information about the running PFU process...

Of course I can see the progress on the web-GUI but sometimes this is difficult to connect and I would like to see what's happening on the CLI.

We lost the MANAGE Password from a MSA 2050...

In the Internet I only found solotion for P2000 and 2040 that don´t work....

Any Idea?

Disk transfer rate mismatch

Hi,

Customer has MSA 2050 and all the disks are 12G transfer rate but in the SMU the disk transfer rate shows as 6G.

Can somebody please help to answer why is that so? Customer says "what is the point of having 12G drives when it runs on 6G" ?

Disk model - EH000600JWCPL

MSA 2050 Confguration

Hi, I'm doing my first MSA 2050 setup on iSCSI. I have already created the pools and volumes which all look fine. I did copy the server iQN and used it to add a host under the host tab, which i mapped with the two volumes i have on the storage. From my windows server, I;ve tried to discover the storage but not able to. I intent to use the MSA default ips 10.0.0.2 and .3, which i have tried to add and discover using the iSCSI initiator but i get "Connectin failed." Is there a step I'm missing or something I'm doing wrong? Kindly assist.

Hi everybody,

just asking or want to be confirmed about MSA 2052 being able to perform boot from san, i'm preparing to perform installation at a customer site, but just to be sure before ordering equipement and it won't be able. can someone please confirm boot from san is possible with MSA. try some rechearch in HPE site but no real info seems to make me sure.

msa1500

Hi Ihave an issue with an MSA1500 and MSA30 enclosure..I have an MSA1500 with 4 AA988A scsi modules and 2 dual bus MSA 30s....the problem is that when I use the CLI  session from the MSA1500 it shows duplicated disk numbers ..the dupluicated disks show the same box/slot number but different SCSI busses..can anyone shed any light on what could be happenning please?  Thanks

This is the first time i use SAN MSA 2050 and i need more to learn about the implentation, configuration and administration. I believe NAS was much easier than SAN!

MSA2312i Vdisk Issue

Hello,  I am trying to find out the best way to remove a phantom VDisk on my MSA2312i.   Somehow, during a disk replacment, the MSA has recreate a VDISK and two volumes that were previously missing from the configuaration. 

The Vidks is showing as Quarantined and Offline, and it appears that 12 disks have been associated with it. 

I guess I need to remove it to clean up the issue but not sure if I can just remove the Volumes, then the VDISKS?

Hallo,

bei unserer MSA 2040 mit DE sollen 12 Disks entnomen werden für eine andere Storage. Kann man erkennen welche Disk welchem LUN zugeordnet ist ?

Es sind 4 LUN´s konfiguriert und 2 davon sind über VCenter/Storage Browser bereits leergeräumt.

Hi everyone!!

I'm Yujiro Toda which is taking charge of configuration support of the storage products from Japan.  As a result I have checked various documnets into the HPE web site included Japan and US site, though I could not find them, so we have a few questions about MSA 1050 and MSA2052 products as followings:

Q1 . What's  the CPU type name on MSA 1050/2052 ?

Q2. How many the number of CPU core  on the a controller?

Q3. Could the MSA 1050 and MSA 2052 run NAS and SAN  into  the same contoroller in the same time?

Please let me know if you know these correct answer above questions.
