HPE MSA 2052 MPIO

Hi guys,

I have connected directly (iscsi, dac cables) 2 servers with vmware 6.5 to my storage, server1 to ports A1 B1 and server2 to ports A2 B2, on array i have one pool on a Storage A.

In vmware i have configured vSwitch with 2 vmkernel and iscsi software adapter, path policy is round robin and I see from each server 2 path but one of them is Active and the other is Active (I/O).

Failover is working properly, but I was thinking that this array is Active/Active, and with mpio host should use all avaible path to array, but from my testing it using only one vmnic (one path) at the same time.

I assumed that I would be able to utilize 2 10Gbps connections from every host, by connecting them to 2 controllers A and B, and both controllers works simultaneously.

How to connect 2 servers to array to use Active/Active mode and have link with more than 10Gbps?

Any suggestions would be great

Format a SAS or SSD SFF disk with a different sector format size

Hi,

When I purchase a HP disk it comes with a sector format of 512n or 512e.

Is there a way to change this format?

I want all my disks to be 512n or 512e (I've comes across a problem when I mix disks of different format sector sizes)

MSA2000 issue seek for help (Urgent)

Dear all,

I know MSA2000 has already EOL, but this is my only chance to raise the discussion here to seek for help. Hope anyone can help with this please.

My MSA2000 cannot login to the controllers to start the services at this stage, but I am able to ping 2 controllers' IP addresses, The login page is dimmed and prompted a message below showing "The syetem is currently unavailable". I am able to telnet the controllers via PUTTY too, but also not able to restart the mc. Anyone can help with this please?

HPE MSA 2050 Storage -Volume utilization in the array differs from that of Host end utilization

Hi,

we have HP MSA storage with 14 TB total and we see around 11TB free space. But when checked on the VM end they come up with data that only 1TB is free.

I dont understand how can there be so much difference? can someone help on this?

HP MSA P2000 G3 FC

Hello All,

I have one HP MSAP2000 G3 FC Storage with 18 populated disks in one enclosure. However we have following disk utilized for each vDisk as mentioned on below. 

vd01 ( RAID 5 ) => 1.2/1.3/1.4/1.5/1.6/1.7/1.8/1.9/1.10/1.18

vd02 ( RAID 5 ) => 1.11/1.12/1.13/1.14/1.15/1.16/1.17

Available Disk : 1.1 

Problem : Disk Location 1.1 was got replaced recently. We are unable to make it Disk 1.1 as Global Spare. However it is again available status after few seconds after made it as Global Spare. 

Taken Action  : 

(1) 1.1 Disk Health is OK State and this disk details are mentoned on below. Even we do have it with many more disks in the same enclosure.

Model: EG0600FBDSR  | Revision : HPD4 Revision | Size :  600 GB | Type  : SAS

(2) I have created new  vdisk (vd03)  with the problematice disk (Disk location 1.1) with NRAID Option and even created a volume too which was created successfully wihtout any issues then I have destrored it temporary created vd03. I thought that again tried to make as Global Spare but it has again available in few seconds.

(3) I have all these tasks through manage user 

Installed Firmware : 

Bundle Version : TS240P004-02

Storage Controller Version : T240P02-01

Suspection : 

Maybe there is some issue with known bug in the above bundle version which may cause the issue

MSA 2052 did not detect hostport connection

Hi, I connected mini SAS cable from ProLiant DL325 Gen10 with HPE Smart Array E208e-p SR Gen10 to MSA 2052 but the MSA did not detect a host port connection. Do you have any ideas? Thanks.

Need Sanity Check on connect MSA2050 as Enclosure to existing MSA2040 Array

Hello HPE folks,

I am looking for a sanity check on whether it is supported to connect a new MSA2050 (as an enclosure) to an existing MSA2040 array.  I haven't been able to find documentation one way or another.  Anyone know the answer, or a link to docs?

(There is another thread similar to this, discussing startup procedure, but I wasn't sure the compatibility question had been touched.)

MSA 2052. A volume doen't discovered by Host Bus Adapter when connected via FC fabric

Hello,

We have

- HPE DL380 GEN10 hosts with HBA SN1100Q (Windows Server 2016)

- HPE FlexFabric 5930 with 24p QSFP+

- MSA 2052 8QFP+

The direct connection between Host and MSA is working well. LUN is mapped  to Host automatically.

The connection via switched fabric is not working.

MSA has the same configuraion of volume's mapping. Even it permits connection from any initiators.

We use single cables between host-switch and switch-msa for the moment without redundancy.

On switch zones are configured.

The Host and MSA are logged in to switch. (Checked via "fc login")

The Host and MSA are registered in Name-Service Database (checked via "fc name-service database") and provide correct FC4 parameters (initiator and initiator/target)

The QlogicConsole Application on Host presents correct  physical topology with all of participants: Host, Switch, and MSA controllers.

Nevertheless  there is no drive in Windows and the host have not been discovered in MSA GUI.

I guess there is some problem with obtaining information of resources on switch, but I don't know how to check this.

There are no events in logs.

HPE MSA 2050 setup woes

I'm having great difficulty in understanding the new MSA 2050 disk and snapshot setup.

We have fully populated with 22 1.8TB SAS drives in addition to the two SSDs. I want two pools in Raid10 and set this up as 1-12 in pool a (SSDs as performance), and 13-24 in pool b (for archive data). I was unable to enable snapshots after creating an 8TB volume on each pool. What I noticed was if I created a smaller volume I was able to create a snapshot, but then the "enable overcommit" box became checked and greyed out!

Can someone please assist in helping me understand what has change between the 2040 and 2050 to stop me creating a thick disk and having snapshots? The issue we have is that someone filled the drive initially and stopped VMware, all we want is two thick volumes, and one or two snapshots on the SAN.

P2000 Storage Management Utility - no access

I have not got access to SMU for some time. When I try to log in, I have the "The system is currently unavaiable" message right away
The matrix and disks are working properly only I can not manage it.

The attempt to restart the controller did not work :(

Any tips, tips, suggestions?
How can I get into management?
Help me.

Enabling Jumbo Frames

Hi,

I want to enable jumbo frames on an msa 1040 that is currently in production. in an eESXI iscsi environment

questions..

1. When enabled do iscsi connections go down in anyway that could significatly impact production servers.
2. If the esxi hosts have a default MTU (1500) when we enable  jumbo frames will there be any issues ( since mtu is lower than than what is allowed i expect no issue)

MSA 2040 CLI cannot connect

Hello,

We have a problem with our MSA 2040 cabin. The device itself it's working, but we haven't been able to connect via http for a while, so I'm trying to use the USB cable, but it's a nightmare.

First, there are only drivers for windows servers and they don't work on virtualized systems. So we had to find a non-virtual Windows 2012 R2 Server. I installed the drivers and reboot (just in case). But when I connect the cable the device is no recognized. I get a "unknown USB device". Windows seems to have a problem getting the device descriptor.

I understand thar the cable is a normal USB to mini-USB cable, so a standard one should work.

Any idea about how to workaround this problem and get to connect the MSA 2040?

P2000 MSA G3 Controller B network degraded (but still seems to be working)

Hi all,

          I've got an odd issue on an old P2000 G3 MSA storage system.  It has 2 controllers both of which are working fine and a number of expansion units (again all working as expected). I noted that it was reporting that controller B's network management port was 'degraded' . Sure enough 'show system' is reporting the system as degraded and I can see a red X against the controller B manangement port.  Show FRUS however says alll subcompoents are in OK state, show controllers again is fine, show cache-parameters is OK,... I can also connect to the system over ssh on both controllers.  What I can't seem to do is connect to the WEBUI on controller B. I've tried restart MC to see if that helps. No. I've also run ping tests from both controllers.

Controller A can ping its gateway with no issues. It can also ping controller B. Controller B however is reporting it cannot or can only intermittently ping the default gateway and it's partner controller A. 

 

So all a bit odd really. If it was failed I'd expect no access at all, yet I can ssh onto it. 

 

Both controller are running TS230P006 which I am guessing is pretty old however we had not seen any issues until recently.

My next plan is probably to fail everything onto controller A and then re-seat controller B to see if the issue clears. If not I guess the next step is a new controller but given the issues I've had in the past being sent controllers with way newer firmware and then having the controllers refuse to talk to each other that will be a last resort.

If anyone has seen this type of issue before or has any suggestions it would be most welcome.

Replication between HPE MSA 2040 and 2050 for Disaster Recovery

Hello everyone,

Please, I configured both storage box to be in the same subnet, created a peer connection between 2040 and 2050 successfully by querying the peer connection from 2050, since 2040 doesn't not support authentication.

So, replication sets were configured and started. But after initial or base replication, the replication was paused and the 2050 was taken to the DR site, whereby there is need to change its local IP address to another subnet. I edited the peer connection on 2040 by changing the IP of the remote IP to the DR IP, it says incorrect username and password. So, peer connection couldn't resume.

My question now is that

1. Is it possible to do a base or initial replication before taking the secondary storage to the DR?

2. If yes, what should I do to achieve this.

is there any way to extract th alerts from hp p2000 storage?

i tried to do it with powershell but didnt know how to pass the authorization method...

any ideas?
