MSA2000 P3 FC

Hello, I have a MSAP2000 G3 FC connected to 2 ESXi via FC, everyone ESXI is connected to each controller on the MSA2000, for redundancy.

Now, I've bought 2 StorageWorks 8/24 FC switch, that I want to use with the MSA2000 and three ESXI, 2 of them are the ones that are already connected directly to the MSA via FC.

My doubt is regarding the LUN's that I already have configured on those 2 ESXI, that are from MSA2000.

If I connect the MSA2000 to both StorageWorks and the ESXi also to both StorageWorks, would I lose the LUN's, or will them be visible as before?

Thanks a lot,

Hi, one question,

Should  I unmap a P2000 volume and map it to another server without loosing volume data?

Thanks.

Create LUN on existing array with CLI

Hello, I have a MSA1000 active/active san, with 14 300GB disks, upgraded with latest firmware.

My plan is to create one RAID 5 array with 13 disks, with two LUN's, one with 2 Tb (that is the maximum capacity it allow the san to present), and one with 1,9 Tb, and use the 14th disk as spare.

I've been able to create the 2 Gb LUN, but when I try to create the second LUN, with the command:

ctrl slot=0 create type=ld size=1945600 raid=5

it says:

Error: The specified controller does not have any unassigned physical drives on it.

Should I use the ACU instead of CLI to peform this action?

Thanks,

MSA2312fc stuck on Expand

Hi.

We have a MSA2312fc with dual controllers, one disk in RAID5 changed its status to LEFTOVER.

After that i did Clear Disk Metadata, and now the disk has its status as AVIAL.

As of now MSA is stuck for more than 2 days in Job - Expand (6%).

Vdisk:

Health Degraded

Status CRIT

Current Job Expand (6%)

Log:

An expand-vdisk job failed. Command failed. (error code: 1). (vdisk: vd01, SN: 00c0ffd8647900009762964a00000000)

Did anyone have something like this?

Will appreciate any comments.

Upgrading servers on a failover cluster with P2000 MSA storageworks

Hi, our office is planning to inplace upgrade our failover cluster servers from W2K8 R2 to W2k12 R2.  The question is will the Storage Management Utility (SMU),  that came with the P2000 MSA storageworks, work with W2K12 R2?  I've searched HP's websites and nothing comes up when searching for variations for P2000 MSA storage works.   Any other information would be appreciated.

MSA2000 g3 doesn't apply GlobalSpare disk

Hello! Some time ago I installed a disk as a GlobalSpare in my MSA2000. Today I've got one disk failed ( with the same model of disk, in the same enclosure ) Althought that the enclosure/storage still in degraded state because the GlobalSpare disk didn't replace the failed disk.

What's wrong? Why GlobalSpare doesn't work? Thank you

MSA2040 Remote Management

I have several MSA2040 in remote offices. They have redundant (Gladden CPU) SAS controllers in Top (A) and Bottom (B). The other day we were having A/C issues in one of our offices and we were instructed to shutdown the equipment. We do this remotely from our centralized support area in a different state. The command we were instructed to use is via ssh session, shutdown both.

I was surprised to find out that we could no longer logon to either SAS controller after it shutdown although the webpage was still available and the IP address was still working, the logon prompts were grayed out. In order to get the logon prompt to work, we had to remove both the power cables from the back of the MSA2040 and reinstall because there's no power switches on the power supplies. I found that weird because the graphical representation of the back of the MSA 2040 shows one on each power supply.

P2000 G3 Controller firmware upgrade fail

$

Greetings,

We have 2 P2000 MSA G3's in production where each one has 2 SAS controllers installed.  This past weekend I scheduled time to update the firmware on all for controllers from TS252R007 --> TS252P001  (REF LINK)

The first MSA updated just fine with no errors.  The second MSA not so much.  It failed on the first controller and it appears to be no longer functioning.  This is what I saw while it was updating:

"SC has not rebooted after 240 seconds.  Quitting Storage Controller Code failed to load.  Stopping firmware update process.  MC Will restart.  Please reapply the firmware update once the MC has restarted.

===================================================
MC Software::  Unknown
SC Software:  Failed
EC Software:  Not Attempted
===================================================

Status *** Code Load Fail ***
Restarting Management Controller...
Return_Code:  10"

Now when I log into that controller, none of the vdisk / volumes are is listed or any components for that matter.  I did shut it down, reseated the controller, and then tried re-installing the firmware with no success.  Thankfully I have a 2nd controller installed where I can still see all the volumes and other components.

Does anyone have suggestions what to do next to

Thanks

I have EVA 6500 with XCS ver 10000000 and Command View Ver 9.4.

I upgrade management software ( Command View on Management Module )   from 9.4 to 10, then from 10 to 10.2 and final from 10.2 to 10.3

After Command view upgrade i upgrade EVA firmware from 1000000 to 11200000.

After firmware upgrade in Command View i can see hosts/ virtual disk but i can't see disk group / Hardware view After that i upgrade managment software to 10.3.3 - same issue

I try installing Command View on Windows Host but i have the same issue..

All the systems connected to EVA works OK.

In logs i have this errors
15-Apr-2016 23:32:41        M: mgmtmod    Error building Hardware view. Not a Supported Version    No    14010
15-Apr-2016 23:32:41        M: mgmtmod    Error building Disk Group view. Not a Supported Version    No    14010

MSA 2040 adding physical disk in virtual pool

$

Hi everyone,

It's possible to add a physical disk in a virtual pool?

 This is my scenario:

 SAN HP MSA 2040

 Controller A:

- virtual pool : vDisk1

- RAID 5: 5 disks SAS 600GB per disk, total size 2395 GB

 Controller B:

- virtual pool: vDisk2

- RAID 5: 6 disks SAS 600GB per disk, total size 2995 GB

Now I want expand the physical disk in vDisk1 and vDisk2, but the option modify groups disk is greyed, bacause I can modify only linear disk type.

How I can add a physical disk?

 Thank you

P2000 G3 SAS Performance I/O in Question and Best Practices Using it in Hyper-V 2012 R2

$

Few part question here:

1.  Questionable I/O throughput with server and P2000, are my results on par with hardware/software setup or I have a configuration/hardware issue.  Are the 7.2K disks the limiting factor here?

2.  P2000 failover not working properly, preferred and current owner are always the same controller, which when a failover test occurs makes the failover take 5-7 seconds instead of instantaneous. Tech support said they should always be opposite and failover should be instantaneous.  Even when forcing controller to restart to make them say A/B or B/A shortly thereafter they report back to A/A or B/B.

3. Best way to make these LUNs usable to Hyper-V VM's.  Will NOT be using as shared storage, just extra storage for VM's so that when performing a share nothing live migration of the OS, the P2000 storage can be accessed from all my Vms the same when migrating from one host to another.  I'm aware it can be done be pass through disk, VHDX (VHDX shared??) or possibly even mounting the disk in the VM, but which solution will do what i want and perform optimally.

Have a P2000 G3 SAS dual controller with latest firmware on controller with (24) 500Gb 7.2Krpm 2.5" 6Gbps drives with latest firmeware connected to a Dell R710 with 6Gbps SAS HBA.  Using dual mini-SAS cables, one to each controller for redundancy with MPIO on the server with Server 2012 R2.  MPIO config below.

Question 1 Details

Have created several vdisks & volumes on the P2000 and then added them on the physical server as simple disks to test the difference in throughput, RAID0, 3disk RAID5, 6disk RAID5, all results basically the same.  Used CrystalDiskMark.  Basically the internal RAID1 OS and RAID5 Data storage have nearly twice the I/O as the external SAS P2000 storage and the internal disks are 3Gbps and the P200 are 6Gbps.

Controller Redundancy Mode - Active-Active ULP

Controller Redundancy Status - Redundant

Controller A Status - Operational

Controller B Status - Operational

vdisk - write cache policy (write-back), read ahead size (default)

Volumes are mapped to all controller ports since  I plan on having multiple servers with access to same LUNs after sucessful testing is completed

MSA 2040 SAS performance improvement for Hyper-V Exchange 2013/SQL Servers on Cluster

Hello everybody,

I've a MSA 2040 12G SAS with 4 DL380 G9 connected in a clustered Hyper-v enviroment (Winsows 2012 R2 Datacenter).

SAN has been configured with a single RAID-5 Vdisk (#10 SAS 6G SFF 1.2Tb 10K with spare) and two volumes (Quorum+CSVFS) running many VM hosts with 2 production SQL 2012 R2 and 1 Exchange 2013, plus a snap pool.

I'd like to improve performance, now I've added some 600Gb 15K 12G SFF disks and create others two Vdisks for DB (RAID 5) and LOGS (RAID 10). Which is your suggestion? Create a volume and map single lun as logical disks in CVFS so to move and separate VHDX file or create many volumes and LUNs as Pass-trought disks directly and exclusively to Exchange/SQL VM guest so to move DB/LOGS files into?

To improve performance on data protection & availability, it's better create another single vdisk with a multiple snap pools to make all snapshots there (delete the snap pool on first Vdisk and expand volume to CSVFS) or use replication of all volumes?

I've used to create standard volume in a Vdisk with 512k Chunk size/512n, you suggest to use GPT and make disk alignment in 512k using diskpart or leave default?

Does anybody has some experiences to help me? Many thanks and I hope to receive asap reply/discussion.

Best regards

MSA 2324FC with SAS attached MSA60 shelf

Hello All, I am trying to repurpose some old kit we have laying around to build some simple storage for Veeam backups. I have a MSA 2324FC with dual controllers, 24x300GB SAS disks along with 2 MSA60 shelves with 12 x 1TB drives in each enclosure.

I have all cabled up and managed to reset to factory defaults on both controllers, created vdisks on both the 2324 and the MSA60's. and while the cli responds fairly quickly, the gui is incredibly slow. taking upto 5 mins to show changes.

Also the logs are filling up with EMP errors from both MSA60 shelves.

My main question is, is this a feasible combination of controllers and shelves (i know normally MSA70 shelves are used)

Is the delay in the gui because of the new hardware and vdisk initililazation tasks running?

Cheers

Problems w/ MSA2000 G3 Detecting Hosts

I have one host plugged into one controller at the moment, the host is an alpha es40 running fiber to the MSA.  On the MSA I factory reset it got it on my network and added the hosts WWN.  I am not sure why but it will not discover the host so I can not see the volumes I created on the ES40... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
