MSA 2040 expand RAID 10 VDISK - help

$

I am getting an error trying to expand a RAID 10 vdisk fron 4 to 8 disks. Any help appreciated I'm new to HP storage - and going off it rapidly!!

The GUI only lets you assign a max 4 disks to a RAID 10 vdisk on creation: is that the maximum allowed?

I cannot find this in a manual.

expand vdisk disks 1.17-20 dgA01

Error: The pool requested is of the wrong storage class.

P2000G3: Remove all disks from Vdisk without loosing data?

$

Hi all,

I've got a P2000 G3 with one Vdisk that consists of 12 hard drives with 2TB each. I now would like to replace those drives with 4TB ones. However, in case something goes wrong I would like to be able to re-install the 2TB drives and access data that is stored on them. Is this possible? If deleting the Vdisk, all data is lost - so can I maybe just remove all drive manually and create a new Vdisk with them?

Thanks,
Michael

MSA 2040 and Active\Active Multipath with Round Robin load balancing policy

Hi,

I'm unable to change the Load balance policy in my iSCSI connection.  My san has 2 controllers, each with 2 ports.  My server has 2 nics, each nic has a sperate IP subnet with a seperate dedicated switch for each controller\subnet.

I have 2 linear LUNs of 100 GB, one on each controller.  In the iSCSI initiator I have multiple paths to each lun, however in the MPIO configuration in the devices in iSCSI I cannot change the load balancing policy, I've done some screenshot.

Does anyone know why this might be happening?  I need to use round robin to increase the performance and utilise more thatn just 1 GB NIC.

Round Robin Load balancing algorithm not available

Hi there,

I'm unable to change the Load balance policy in my iSCSI connection or in device manager for my Multi Path disks I have configured.  .  My san has 2 controllers, each with 2 ports.  My server has 2 nics, each nic has a sperate IP subnet with a seperate dedicated switch for each controller\subnet.

I have 2 linear LUNs of 100 GB, one on a different controller, A and B.   In the iSCSI initiator I have multiple paths to each lun, however in the MPIO configuration in the devices in iSCSI I cannot change the load balancing policy,  ro Round Robin.  It is currently set to RR with subset.

In device manager I can see for the LUN\disk on the active controller the paths are active\optimised, there is just no option for Round Robing in the load balance policy

Does anyone know why this might be happening?  I need to use round robin to increase the performance and utilise more than just 1 GB NIC?

I was under the impression that the MSA 2040 could do active\active and am working with HP support to find and resolve the issue, so far no luck.

P2000 Firmware problems

I am having a problem with controller A showing a different release than controller B. I cannot ftp to controller A and cannot login via the web interface., only using controller B. It seems that the CPLD Code Version and the Management Controller Code Version are different and also the Management Controller Loader Code Version: not set happens on Controller A.

Is there a way to force the upgrade on one controller from the CLI?

I have already tried booting from only controller B and then inserting controller A without any luck.

Any ideas?

MSA 2000i G1 Maximum Drive Size

Hello, due to "budget limitations" I've been tasked with determining if we can use 2 MSA 2000i that are currently using the 300 GB SAS drives (3 1/2"). I am tryting to find out what the maximum hard drive capacity that is supported on this storage device. I'm pretty sure this is a G1 (going by the part #) and from what I've found so far is that this device will support up to 5.4 TB of total space (450 GB drives in the 12 slots) but everything that I have read is very old.

Does anyone know what the maximum drive capacity supported is? There are some hard drives available that we can use that are 1 TB but I need to find out if those are even supported on this storage device.

Thanks

Gen9 servers P2000 G3 SAS

I cant believe that Gen9 servers will not work with

P2000 G3 SAS

I have read that the H221 Host Bus Adapter can be used on Gen9 server to connect, but not officially supported.

I cant risk spending 10k on a server only to have it not work, and be told, 'it's not supported'

I keep waiting for updated driver for the H241 smart HBA card to work with our P2000 G3 SAS storage unit.

Seems it will never happen.

Big supprise, not going to purchase any Gen9 servers.

Hello,

I'm having an 2 HP P2000 G3 SAS storage. And it has the following error :

218CAPI_EVENT_SUPERCAP_END_OF_LIFE"SuperCap End of Life" );

I read that an firmware update could resolve the issue.

But the latest firmware needs some firmware versions before I can get to the latest one.

What are the best steps to upgrade to latest version and where can I download the older firmwares.

See the attachment with the current version.

MSA2324FC Largest 15K SAS Drive Available

We currently have an MSA2324FC using 300GB 15K SAS Drives.  I need to increase the size of the drives and I am trying to find out the largest capacity drive that is approved at 15K?  When looking at the manual, I don't see a drive larger than 300GB SAS at 15K.  However, I do see some people selling HP Branded drives for the MSA2324FC at 600GB SAS 15K.  Can someone tell me the largest 15K SAS and part number if you have it that are approved for this MSA?

Thanks,

Brett

MSA2324i G2 LEFTOVR drive oddity

$

Hi folks,

MSA2000i, firmware M114P01 (latest G2 I think) failed a drive in one of its R5 vdisks, electrical death so it just disappeared from the SMU and CLI. I replaced it with a similar 300gb drive and added the replacement into the spare pool. Reconstruction took over and lasted 10 minutes before stopping and kicking the drive out to LEFTOVR state. Since this was a brand new drive I cleared the disk metadata and re-added it to the spare pool. Same result.

I bought an identical model and firmware-level drive (EG0300FAWHV, HPDF) which matched the other 5 drives in the vdisk and the same thing happens.

Any clues? The logs just say 'unknown reason, have a look in the troubleshooting guide' which just says to clear metadata. I don't want to destroy and rebuild this vdisk if at all possible since there's a 1.1TB reporting server using it. The controllers obviously know the replacement drive SHOULD be added to this vdisk since they attempt reconstruction, but why the failure?

Cheers

Re-using an HP P2000 G3 SAN on the local LAN

We presently have an HP P2000 G3 SAN being used with VMware.

It has its network configuration done such that its SAN traffic is on a separate VLAN etc. wrt VMware.

Later on when this P2000 SAN is replaced I want to make it usable and visible to our regular network instead of isolated.

Do I do this by simply changing all the network configurations of the connections with LAN IPs instead of the current IPs that keep it in its separate VLAN??

Or do I do something else etc.??

Thank you, Tom

Dear people,

We have a SAN with x counts of disks and we put 2 more extra in the SAN.

Now i know how to expand the VDISK01, but i want to know what is the impact.

IS it possible to expand in an live environment. and when is the best time. can we start in an regular work day, or is it better when there are less people at work.

Or must our environment been shutdown before we do the expanding.

adn how long could it take if we say from 7.2 tb expand with 1.2 tb raid 5?

Firmware updates on MSA2000 G3 contoller without network management port. How to?

We apperently have 1 dead mgmt port on Controller B. We were able to upload and configure controller A to the newest firmware TS250P003.

How can we go about deploying the updated firmware to controller B without the us of the mgmt port? Controller B firmware is TS201R014

Thesse units have an onbaord USB port but I could not find any references on how to deploy onto a thrumbdrive and update the firmware. Besdides this 1 dead mgmt port the controller has been working for years.

OS Upgrade on server with existing MSA2012fc

Hi

We have a Hp server running W2003 (32 Bit ) connected to a MSA2012fc with 2 enclosures preseting 2 virtual drives D and E on the server

The firmware on the MSA is J202P01 which supports w2008 x64

We need to do a clean install of W2008 R2 Enterprise on the server but we are unsure if the virtual drives will be visible on the server after the installation of the OS or is there other tasks we must do to make them visible

Thanks

Tony
