MSA 2012i Multi logon to a volume

$

Does anyone know how to enable mult-connections to a volume on an MSA 2012i? The array has one volume setup this way and I can't for the life of me figure out how it was done. I'm setting up a HyperV cluster, which is why I need this capablity for a second volume on the stack. I have searched The Google for hours and cannot find any information on this.

Thanks for you help!

How do I add a new enclosure to a P2000 G3?

Hi

We have a dual controller P2000 G3 and have just aquired another P2000 G3 enclosure.  I have yet to cable the 2 units together using the supplied SAS cables as I am unsure of the procedure.  The instructions imply that the enclosure can be hot-added but I am loathe to do this without checking first.  Is it best to power everything down before cabling them together and is there a correct order to do things?

Cheers!

I just have one unit of MSA2040.  Ithas two controllers.  It will connect to two Windows 2016 servers similar to the topic in HP MSA 2040 SAN Storage - Connecting Hosts Figure 5.(http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5386548&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c03820022)

Can anyone give me some advise what IP addresses I should assign to MSA network ports?

Controller A - port 1-4: IP address ?

Controller B - port 1-4: IP address ?

Also on Server 1 and Server 2 which each server has 2 ports.

Thank you

HP MSA 2024fc vd01 offline

I have a p2000 2024fc. Single Raid 50 array 2 parity groups. I have had 3 disks fail this week The first two were on the first parity group, the third on the second parity group.

I was able to powercycle the array and saw that the vd was FTOL and the last failed disk was now leftover.

My friend, why I wasn't paying attention, decided to clear the metadata on the leftover disk before I had a chance to try the trust command.

Now that drive is showing avail and the vd is back to being offline.

Is there ANY way to recover this volume to at least get the data off of it? It was my vmware datastore for 4 vm's.

Thanks

Chris

MSA 2040 Firmware Update | Failed/Stuck?

$

Hi All,

We have a dual controller MSA 2040, which the other weekend I set off to update firmware from early release to current, I think GL105 to now GL220.

Anyway, started this on what I found was Controller B, via the web GUI. It all seemed to progress along well with items displaying onscreen until it said it would reboot or something. I let this happen and then after a while I could again reach the web GUI, which now looked different as it was the v3 version, BUT, could not log in as it had a warning to say it was still initialising.

Logged into controller A web GUI and it showed B as being offline.

So trying to resolve this this week and found that I could still connect into B via SSH, but only do things within Management Controller (MC), sending any commands to the Storage Controller (SC) has it fail.
So, after reading some other things I thought to completely power cycle the unit, so today stopped all I/O and then set the command from Controller A to Shutdown SC on both A and B. Power cycled unit.. AND...

Now I can't reach the Web GUI/CLI on A. I can CLI into B with limited functions. Tried to connect via USB method but windows said it couldn't function with this USB item, using server 2012 driver on win 10 so maybe something a miss there, will connect to server to try.

Otherwise, everything is still working, but I have no visibility, and no firmware updated.

Any hints or thoughts on how to proceed to get back to a functioning controller?
From memory Controller A now has a solid amber light at back, and Controller B is flashing.

I've moved some items off the MSA now and could get the rest off this week if need be to nuke and start again but would rather not if I can.

Cheers

What is the effect of adding additional storage while the cluster is in restriping mode?

$

I took one of the storage from the cluster to change the battery, but I got an error message that the "This cluster is Over-provisioned and Full.  Writes to thinly provisioned volumes and snapshots in this cluster will fail. Take action now to reduce the space utilization in the cluster. Possible actions include:  delete volumes and snapshots, reduce snapshot retention, add nodes to the storage cluster, use thinly provisioned volumes, move volumes to other clusters, etc."

So is it possible to add additional node(storage) to the cluster while it's restriping?  Does it have an effect since it holds all live servers on it?

Is it possible to shrink a volume that is currently in use but has 150GB of free space in order to increase the size of another volume that is low on free space? Looking at the volume via CMC it seems as though it might allow me to shrink it. Running CMC 12.7 in a vSphere 5.1 cluster

We are looking to purchase two HPE StoreVirtual 3200 SANs. Both nodes will be located in the same LAN/office and we intend to setup network raid10.

To ensure quorum we would like to delploy a FOM vapp or a file witness. Would we need to purchase additional licenses/support for the FOM/witness server? We are getting conflicting advise from our resellers.

Hello,
I've just bought a MSA 2040 SAS, looks like it's lack of knowledge since I need to connect to a SAN SWITCH, not direct to server.

Now I don't know how to do, can anyone tell me some good way for this situation.
SAN Switch is "Cisco 8Gb Fibre Channel SAN Switch DS-C9148-16P-K9"

Thank you very much!

P2000G3 - Upgrade to MSA2042

Hi,

I'm looking for the correct procedure to move from a P2000 G3 to a MSA2042.  My P2000 has exsiting D2700 shelfs, whcih I want to add to the new MSA2042.  The P2000 has SATA disks in the unit head, the MSA2042 obviosuly has SAS.

I do not want to remove the controller heads from the P2000,, which the upgrade guides I've read refer to.

I want to leave the P2000 in place and act as a seperate SAN for the business.

The SAN is presented to Hyper-V hosts.  All data on the D2700;s must remain in place and continue to be available to the hosts once connected to the new MSA2042.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Vdisk showing no data on my P2000

Ok, a little back storey on what has happened since last Friday. I was putting in a new UPS and was going to test the old to see how bad it was, hit self-test and everything that was hooked up to it (p2000 storage, 3 HP iLO servers) shut off. After they rebooted, one of my controllers failed on reboot leaving me with one working one on my SAN. Oh forgot to mention that warranty is out. Some how since then, the ip addresses for my iLO servers got changed to be the same as my corrosponding ESXi hosts. On Monday I noticed that I kept losing connectivity to my ESXi hosts and that's when I found out about the ip address issue. I powered them all down and reconfigured the ip addresses for all 3 of them and reset and turned back on. I did that today, Monday, and now I'm left with this issue.

I am supposed to have 2 vdisk, vd1 should have 2 volumes and vd2 should have 1 volume. Each volume is attached as a datastore to an ESXi host and used with my VMWare servers. All the data is still there and my production environment is currently not affected, but in my storage management utility all the vdisk are gone. I even sshed into the controller and tried the command "show volumes" and it came back with nothing. I'm not sure what is going on with it right now.

Does anybody have an idea???

Reclaim unused storage

MSA P2000 G3

Need to reclaim the disk space from Vdisk that is no longer in use.  Do I just simply delete the volume and Vdisk, then from an in-use volume and select Expand?  If yes, can I expand the active volume live, will it affect the performance during teh expansion?

Thanks in advance.

reset disk status flag from failed to OK or Pred. failure

Just bad luck ... 2 failing disks in one raid5 array. The system reported 2 failed disks during a reboot. After a power cycle and "F2" we were able to get the array back online and the system started to rebuild 1 disk. I don't know how it selected that one, but during the rebuilding the second bad disk gave a ton of read errors and rebuilding stopped... 2 disk marked failed.

Is there a way to reset that failure flag on the disk and trigger the rebuilding of the 1st disk? Accepting some read errors/failures.

Hello,

The storage in question is equipped with 12 HDD of two different cuts: 450 GB (x4) and 600 GB (x8).

There are two Vdisks:

- the first uses four 450GB HDDs

- the second uses seven 600 GB HDDs

The latest 600 GB disk is used as Global Spare

One of the 450GB HDDs was corrupted and the system replaced it automatically with the GS.

The customer replaced the 450GB hard disk that was configured as a new GS.

I would like to restore this last disk as a member of the first vdisk and reconfigure the 600 GB disk as GS.

I don't know much about this storage and I imagine that I should expand vdisk by adding the 450 GB disk and then removing the 600 GB disk.

Is there a simpler solution?

Thank you

----------

Salve,

Grazie
