MSA 2040 Disk Group Degraded after replacing the faulty disk with the same size and speed

Hi All

we have an MSA 2040 storage with one of its disks failed and as a result its disk group was in a degraded state.

we replaced the disk with the exact same model "ST4000NM0034" and the storage ddetected the disk. I then selected the disk as the global spare, but I cannot see that the storage uses the disk to rebuild its RAID and the disk group is still in a degradede state.

below is the output of the "show disks" commands with disk serial numbers hidden.

# show disks

1.11 SerialNumber   SEAGATE E0G5 SAS MDL VIRTUAL POOL 7 4000.7GB 512e dgA01 A Archive OK
1.12 SerialNumber   SEAGATE E0G5 SAS MDL VIRTUAL POOL 7 4000.7GB 512e dgA01 A Archive OK

we have done below trying to resolve this issue with no success.

1: upgrading the storage controller firmware to the latest one

2: upgrading disks firmware to the latest one

3: setting the global spare disk back to Available, Rescaning storage disk channels and setting it back to the globa spare again.

4: restarting both storage controllers one at a time.

as said, none of the above resolved the problem. the storage is out of warrranty and I was hoing I can get a solution to this issue as a fear further disk losses may result in data loss.

Thanks

H.M
